Hell's Half Acre, Wyoming

Right out in the middle of nowhere, and quite unexpectedly there are 320 acres of beautiful badlands in the plains of central Wyoming. This area is called Hell's Half Acre.

These photographs were taken on July 18, 2003. The first six pictures were taken at the scenic overlook above the badlands. I hiked down into the area to take the rest. It is like being in a surreal world there. Incredible. And the pictures just don't do it justice. The day became overcast near the end of my visit. This place is one of Wyoming's little known secrets, and well worth an extended visit.
